NGAUS has filled a key position in the association’s legislative department.
Mikalia Flagg is the association’s new legislative analyst.
Flagg started Monday at the National Guard Memorial, the NGAUS headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Her duties include critical analysis of and providing for various legislative activities including bills, hearings and other support documents.
Before joining NGAUS, Flagg worked as a legislative intern for Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., a retired Army Guard aviator who is also a current member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Flagg's responsibilities in Duckworth's office included drafting bill co-sponsor recommendation letters about environmental issues, immigration and national security. She also attended policy briefings and hearings.
Flagg said working in Duckworth’s office — plus having family members who have served in the armed forces — made her interested in focusing more on military affairs.
"I'm excited to start learning about the military more on an in-depth level to become more of an expert in something I really enjoy," she said.
Flagg said she wanted to bring what she learned on the Hill and apply it to helping the Guard.
She graduated from Loyola University Chicago, College of Arts and Sciences with a bachelor’s degree in political science and global sciences and a minor in Spanish.
Flagg resides in Washington, D.C.
