William Matney, an Army National Guardsman with the Virginia Guard, began his role as a legislative analyst at NGAUS on Nov. 4.
In this capacity, Matney supports the legislative team by providing detailed analysis, background information and notes on key bills.
When asked about his motivation for joining NGAUS, Matney explained, "I've always been passionate about defense policy, and what truly drives me is the opportunity to serve service members. I'm excited to apply my experience in legislative affairs to support our service members."
Before joining NGAUS, Matney worked as a legislative correspondent for Rep. Morgan Luttrell, R-Texas. He also worked as a staff assistant for Reps. Austin Scott, R-Ga., and Bruce Westerman, R-Ark.
Besides his current role, Matney is attending the Virginia National Guard's Officer Candidate School, further advancing his military career.
Matney holds a bachelor's degree in economics with a minor in political science from the University of Georgia.
Matney resides in Springfield, Virginia, with his wife, Ohud, and their daughter, Nora.
