NGAUS has added a fourth member of the Joint Chiefs to the speaker lineup for the 142nd General Conference.
Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., the Air Force chief of staff, will join Gen. James C. McConville, the Army chief of staff, Gen. Daniel R. Hokanson, the chief of the National Guard Bureau, and Gen. John W. “Jay” Reymond, the chief of space operations, on the agenda Aug. 28-29.
Lt. Gen. Jon A. Jensen, the director of the Army Guard, and Lt. Gen. Michael A. Loh, the director of the Air Guard, will also speak.
McConville’s presentation is set for Aug. 28 while the other generals will speak Aug. 29.
Most of the scheduled speakers are new to their jobs. Brown, Hokanson, Jensen and Loh have been in their positions only a few days. Raymond assumed his post in December. McConville is the dean of the group, having served just a year as the Army’s top officer.
“Our conference this year is a chance to discover the way forward for the National Guard from America’s new defense leadership,” said retired Brig. Gen. J. Roy Robinson, the NGAUS president.
The conference will be livestreamed from the National Guard Memorial, the association headquarters in Washington, D.C. Attendance is virtual and not limited to NGAUS members.
The association will set up a studio in the building’s Walsh-Reckord Hall of States. An audio-visual company will produce and transmit a broadcast-quality telecast to an online event platform, which is now open to registered attendees.
In addition to the conference telecast, the platform will enable attendees to connect with each other, pose questions to speakers, play some games and visit a virtual trade show. More than 80 companies have already registered to exhibit. Many have already set up their booths.
Conference events get underway the morning of Aug. 28 with work on the resolutions. Two delegates from each of the 54 states and territories will develop a package to serve as the basis for next year’s legislative action plan.
The first of four short sessions will follow later in the day. Among the highlights Aug. 29 will be the Roll Call of States. Many states and territories have already submitted 30-second videos.
Conference registration is $18.78 and can be accomplished at www.ngaus.org/events/142nd-general-conference. All registrants receive a commemorative coin. The first batch of coins is set to be mailed this week.
Responding to requests, NGAUS has extended registration for the virtual 5K run/walk in conjunction with the conference. Participants will set up their course anywhere they want (treadmills and overseas locations included) and run or walk it anytime between Aug. 24 and 30.
Registration will now be open through Aug. 30, or until the medals run out. All participants will receive a race medal. Early registrants should receive their medals this week.
Register at www.ngaus.org/events/142nd-general-conference or at https://runsignup.com/NGAUSvirtual5k. Cost is $30. Proceeds go to the National Guard Educational Foundation.
Participant names, times and run/walk locations submitted to ngaus@ngaus.org will be posted on the NGAUS website.
