NGAUS has expanded its popular National Capital Summit to provide more company-grade and junior warrant officers with a chance to see firsthand how Washington works and the role the association plays in the legislative process.
The first summit in 2019 is set for March.
The now four-day, three-night trip includes visits to Capitol Hill and the Pentagon. Participants will also come to the National Guard Memorial, NGAUS headquarters in Washington, D.C., to hear from senior National Guard Bureau leaders, association officials and congressional staffers.
“Feedback from the last two years indicated that our itinerary was very worthwhile, but also a little rushed,” said Mike Hadley, the NGAUS legislative director. “So, instead of just a day and a half on the ground in D.C., attendees will have two full days and fly back on the fourth day.”
NGAUS will cover the cost of those flights, as well as hotel rooms and meals.
There is also a third summit next year. Each runs Sunday to Wednesday, with first and last days serving as travel days. There is a reception/mixer scheduled for all attendees in the late afternoon on Sunday. The dates are:
• March 10-13, 2019 (Registration deadline: Jan. 8, 2019)
• July 14-17, 2019 (Registration deadline: April 5, 2019)
• Oct. 27-30, 2019 (Registration deadline: July 12, 2019)
The original registration deadline for the March summit had been Dec. 21, but was extended due to the impending holiday season, Hadley said.
Participation is open to NGAUS members, Army or Air, second lieutenant to captain or warrant officer 1 to chief warrant officer 2.
Only one officer from each state, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia may attend each summit. State and territory associations will select attendees. The selection process used is at the discretion of each association.
Interested officers should contact their state or territory association executive director or president. State contact information is available here.
