Minuteman Minute - National Guard Memorial Building
While our artifacts tell important stories, visitors to the National Guard Memorial also walk in the footsteps of historical figures who shaped our nation’s history. Dr. Anne Armstrong provides a brief overview of the National Guard Memorial’s history, including the origins behind our museum. First dedicated by President Harry S. Truman in May of 1959, the National Guard Memorial featured its first museum exhibits during the U.S. Bicentennial. In 1991, the current building was constructed on the same lot as the original building. The current museum, located in the lower lobby of the National Guard Memorial, opened to the public in 2003.
