More than 6,300 National Guardsmen are helping the Southeast United States recover from Hurricane Helene, the National Guard Bureau said Tuesday.

About 4,200 National Guardsmen from seven states responded to Hurricane Debby following the storm’s emergence last week, according to the National Guard Bureau.

The National Guard may face a "hyperactive" hurricane season this year, according to a May 23 forecast from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
