Counting Down to NGAUS 2014
The 136th General Conference & Exhibition kicks off next week. We’ll come together in Chicago Aug. 22 to 25 with National Guardsmen from each state, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands for a few days of networking, business and, yes, fun.
The conference theme is “The National Guard: Now More Than Ever.” That’s been the NGAUS message this year and it’s no secret why. Tight budgets and winding-down wars are changing the defense landscape, and the Guard is a common-sense, cost-effective, ready-to-work solution.
The multi-day event will feature guest speakers from the Pentagon, Congress and even the sports world. Company Grade Officers at the conference on orders have a special agenda tailored to their professional development goals. And the tradeshow will feature the latest and greatest the defense industry has to offer the National Guard.
This conference has been designed also to showcase the wonderful city that’s hosting it. McCormick Place, where the formal business of the conference will occur, is the nation’s largest convention center. The TAG reception (invitation only) is at the Shedd Aquarium, home to more than 32,000 aquatic animals. The world-class Field Museum will host the Governor’s Reception. And the Fun Run on Lakeshore Drive will feature views of the city on one side and the beauty of Lake Michigan on the other. The city also has much to offer outside of the conference, so take opportunities to explore.
Before things get started, take a look at www.ngaus.org/ngaus2014. It’s a one-stop shop for information and will answer many questions about travel logistics, timing, attire and more. And be sure to connect with NGAUS on Facebook and Twitter before the conference.
The NGAUS crew is looking forward to continuing this annual tradition in the vibrant city of Chicago.
