Issues & Advocacy

Town Hall Meetings and District Office Hours

Lawmakers use town hall meetings and district office hours to receive instant feedback on issues important to constituents. NGAUS encourages members to bring up the issues facing the National Guard. Let your members of Congress know what concerns Guard members.

Here are some helpful hints:

1.  Go early and connect with staff. They have the potential of becoming advocates for your cause.

2.  Bring talking points, leave-behind informational documents.  They are more helpful to your position then the Member and staff just taking notes.

3.  Bring a friend, or more.  Having four or five constituents articulating the same position in one setting can have a strong impact.

4.  Be polite.  The way to win friends and influence people is not to hit them with a verbal hammer, but to state your case concisely and politely.
